One French man I know recently found out that a lot of Japanese don't know much about the history or politics of their own country,
as whenever he asks some questions about incidents in the past people rarely have an answer.

It's not a language barrier.
The problem,according to him, is that we are indifferent to societal and historical matters.
Maybe, it is true in a sense, because Japan has been relatively peaceful over the past 50 years, so we did not need to think about the past to improve our daily lives.

Does my perspective sound too radical or like a silly explanation?
